It came to our attention recently that the 'sort' function on the student data table was not working for teachers as intended. We have resolved the problem and apologize for the inconvenience the temporary inaccessibility of this feature may have caused. We would like to thank all of our clients who contacted us regarding this issue—your help enabled us to identify the issue quickly and correct it.
As we continue to add new users, we are finding speed issues in certain areas. We have purchased two new servers which are currently being prepared for implementation in Florida. We are also taking this opportunity to update our code and improve our efficiency. We expect this work to take around a month. In the intervening period, we will offer you an increased level of support for crucial reports. If you are having any problems generating reports during this upgrade period, please contact your Account Representative and they will run the report for you.
We are pleased to announce that Graham Howe has been promoted to Sales Manager of Etraffic Solutions, the parent company of SP SnapShot™. While you can still contact Graham for your support and purchasing needs, he has introduced two new Account Representatives to increase support for yourself.
Connor Tobin will now act as account representative for North Florida – everything north of Pasco, Sumter, Orange and Brevard.
Duncan Hunt will now act as Account Representative for South Florida – everything south of Hillsborough, Polk and Osceola.
As always, you can reach us at 1-866-479-7627.
From 2001-2005, Miami Edison Senior High School received a "F" score five years in a row. During that time, no less than six lead administrators were at the helm to no avail. The school had hit a crossroads. They had to make some tough decisions.
Fast forward to 2007 and the change is incredible. On August 22nd, Governor Charlie Crist made his way to Miami Edison Senior High School to congratulate them for making one of the highest learning gains in mathematics in the State of Florida. Things are definitely looking good. In 2006, Miami Edison Senior High School was six points from a "D" grade. In 2007, their school was eight points from a "C" grade. It took a lot of effort to get there.
In 2005, they were introduced to SP SnapShot™ and, in 2006, implemented it throughout the school. The vision of their principal Dr. Jean Teal, at that time, was to use data in all aspects of their student driven decisions.
"Dr. Teal had the vision to look at the situation and realize the importance of data, monitoring, modification and reflection," said Math Coach Anthony Armbrister. "The biggest leap of (a) mathematics learning gain occurred by teachers buying into data driven instruction then differentiating that instruction to meet the needs of all learning styles."
The school actively engaged its math department and targeted students in the lowest 40% in both Mathematics and Reading.
"We had a small learning community made up of only mathematics teachers who volunteered their time monthly to discuss and collaborate on educational issues that could propel us forward," continued Anthony. "Data was at the heart of this learning curve."
"We also have Saturday school with incentives on attendance for those students from 9-1pm in Reading and Mathematics depending on the data," said Armbrister.
"We used SnapShot to concentrate on tutorial groups, said Anthony. "We used it to give data and empower students to know where they are and where they can go. We placed students in intensive courses along with regular subjects to give them an extra layer of instruction based on their strengths and weaknesses. We used SnapShot to focus on school-wide benchmarks that were weak and infuse them into problem solving techniques school-wide."
"The result is recognition statewide," said Armbrister. "On the school level, teachers have bought-in to data driven decision and accountability. By empowering teachers with this tool, they could pinpoint instructional strategies to assist students with laser-like accuracy."
Every month we would like to recognize a school in the SnapShot bulletin. Have your story featured and we will give your staff one free month of Teacher Essentials lesson modules. Contact us at 1-866-479-7627 to share your story.
Miami Edison Senior High School targeted its lowest 40% of students. Most schools focus on the lowest 25%. We recommend that you look at the lowest 30% just to be careful. Here's an activity to help you find the lowest 30%.
Initial set up; Finding the number of students
Identifying the lowest 25 (make that 30) percent
Some of these students were retained at that grade level for the current roster year; others are in the next grade level for the current roster year. Repeat the above for each of the other grade level groups at your school level. Review the list after October 1st for students who are transferred in or out.
